Reform the UN Security Council

The United States’ repeated vetoes at the UN Security Council have blocked urgent action on humanitarian crises, including multiple attempts to call for a ceasefire and aid access in Gaza.

Despite overwhelming support from other members, a single veto has repeatedly prevented the world from responding to human suffering, exposing a critical flaw in the Council’s structure.

UN Security Council Reforms

To address this imbalance, we propose comprehensive reforms of the Security Council which are urgently needed. 

• Expand Council to 25 members for fair global representation.

• Limit vetoes in mass atrocities and humanitarian crises.

• Fast-track emergencies in the General Assembly when vetoes block action.

• Phase reforms: start with resolutions/commitments, then amend the Charter

These measures will ensure that the UN can respond to crises without being held back by the interests of a single state.
